Winter hike around the summit of Mount Wank
Mount Wank is Garmisch-Partenkirchen’s prime mountain for panoramic views. Up here you can enjoy excellent views all around and there are great opportunities to stop for refreshments or a meal even in wintertime.
The path starts slightly uphill from the top terminal of the Wankbahn cable car. You will see the summit of Mount Wank with its crucifix straight away. You will walk around the summit on the northeast side of the mountain, in turn following the well-developed footpath to Wank-Haus, and then on to Ameisenberg.
Close to the summit crucifix you will find a “cinema of nature”. Simply sit down and soak up the atmosphere of the incomparable panoramic views, breathe in the crisp fresh air and let the sun shine on your face. When the weather is good, you can see past Lake Starnberg and Lake Ammersee all the way to Munich.
If you want to continue your walk, you can extend your tour via the circular path leading to Mount Rosswank. This path will take you in a south-easterly direction and opens up to magnificent views of the Wetterstein Mountains all the way to the peaks of Tyrol.
