Bike Riding
From Garmisch-Partenkirchen around the Liegfeist Mountains
A long distance racing bike tour crossing the border to Austria. The asphalted road is always well-maintained.
From the main entrance of the station, drive 100 m past the taxi stand. Then, in order to get onto the cycle path, turn left diagonally via St-Martin-Straße. Later on, ride straight ahead onto Gernackerstraße. Stay on this road for approx. 500 m and turn left onto Zugspitzstraße, which will lead you to the end of the town. Now, the tour leads over B23, partially over a cycle path past Grainau and to the border. From Grainau, a cycle path leads to and through Griesen. It will then lead you over the state road and the border between Germany and Austria. You will drive through the Viaduct of Ehrwald and turn right in the direction of Lermoos. Now, the tour will continue slightly ascending to Berwang, where you might see some remaining snow in springtime. Enjoy the first downhill run from Berwang to Rinnen, as it will be followed by another uphill section, which, however, is only a short one. When you have reached Kelmen, a downhill section begins that runs past Namlos and that will take several kilometres. During this section, many metres of altitude difference are covered. The downhill part ends in Stanzach. Keep to the right at the road junction in Stanzach – now, you are in the valley of the River Lech – and drive along this road and cycle paths to Weißenbach. Do not ride directly to Reutte but rather turn right in the direction of Ehenbichl to reach Reutte on a nice and nearly even road. When you have reached Reutte, follow the signs to Germany/Fernpass/Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Castle Ehenbichl is on the right hand side). When you have mastered this ascent, the route continues on a slightly hilly road via Heiterwang to Bichlbach, in which you will reach the same paths on which you came. From there, drive via Lermoos, Ehrwald, and Griesen to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and finally to your starting point at the station.
