Through the Ehrwalder Becken
Along the Loisach River along shady tracks cycle from Garmisch-Partenkirchen via Griesen, along the Zugspitze to the valley Ehrwalder Becken.
Opposite the station on St.-Martin-Straße the cycle track starts. Follow it to the left and, go under the railway bridge, and then a few metres up to the second traffic lights at Klammstraße. Turn left, leaving Hauptstraße. You will soon meet a path that takes you across the railway tracks onto the cycle track in the direction of Hammersbach. On you go to the right on a tarmac path alongside the tracks. When you meet the street to the Kreuzeckbahn cable car, turn right across the tracks and follow the street. Upon reaching the houses and George Marshall Centre follow the cycle track to the left to Grainau/Griesen. Across the Hammersbach meadows you will reach Grainau. Right after crossing the bridge, turn right into the residential area. In front of the railway tracks, turn left and then cross the tracks on the street to the right. Follow the “Schmölzerstraße”, but only until you turn left into “An der Wies” in front of the hotel. Soon you will meet the railway tracks again. Turn left and follow “Eibseestraße” up to the train station Untergrainau. Turn right again and pass the sawmill towards the state street. Upon leaving Grainau, you will cross the main street and ride on the cycle track towards Griesen. Just behind a picnic area you will need to cross the street again. Now, follow the cycle track on the left hand side of the road, with a view of the Loisach River nearly the whole time. Except for short sections of gravel paths, the track always runs on the tarmac. Before reaching Griesen, the route takes you to the right across the railway tracks. At the kiosk, ride on the left. For a short while the track runs parallel to the state road before turning into the river valley again, a few metres after the place name sign to the left and across the railway tracks. On a well-developed gravel path, keep riding on. Soon you will cross the Loisach River on a wooden bridge and you will see a sign pointing you towards an underpass on the left, following the sign to “Ehrwald”. The cycle track runs on the left of the railway tracks along the mountain, until, behind another underpass, it meets the state road B23. Follow it to the left, past the petrol station to an electronic information board. Behind the building of the bank, the track continues. After a short climb you can already hear the rushing of the stream Häselgehrbach, flowing downhill in a waterfall. At the next intersection go right and ca. 100 m onwards turn left onto a gravel path. At the next intersection take the way downhill to Hauptstraße. Follow it to Ehrwald. Behind the place name sign you will have two options: Either turn left to Ehrwald and discover the valley Ehrwalder Talbecken on one of the many unsecured cycle tracks. Or you turn right and follow the signposted cycle tracks to Lermoos and Biberwier. Back in Ehrwald, take the way you already know back to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, always slightly downhill.
