Trail Running
Jägersteig-Kreuzeckhaus trailrunning roundtour
Follow in the footsteps of hunters along paths, forest tracks and forest roads. Including panoramic views as a reward!
Cross the railway crossing and continue to the right until you reach the bridge. Before the bridge, turn left towards "Kreuzeckhaus". After approx. 100 metres, finally turn left up the mountain.
The path is quite steep and washed out for the first 200 metres or so. As soon as you have fought your way through here, you have the most challenging part behind you.
After the turnstile, keep left uphill and follow the signs in the direction of "Kreuzeck über Waldeck". You have reached the wide forest road and now have two options:
- Either you turn right into the forest after approx. 150 metres, past the watering trough, a small but crisp path awaits you, which is a challenge for every mountain runner (medium/difficult)
- or you can stay on the forest path and take the less steep and challenging route to the start of the Jägersteig (easy/medium)
No matter what you decide, both paths come together again before you follow the signs to the Jägersteig.
Once you reach the start of the trail, a wonderful forest path awaits you with everything a trail runner's heart desires: steps, roots, a small stream crossing and a moderate gradient overall.
The Jägersteig trail is approx. 1.8 km long and you overcome approx. 450 metres in altitude to the forest road, which then leads you the last few metres to the Kreuzeckhaus.
Your efforts will be rewarded with a fabulous panorama at the end of the trail and at the Kreuzeck mountain inn.
On the way back, you can either take the Kreuzeck cable car (note the opening times) or walk back to the starting point along paths and wide forest roads.
