Walk around the summit of Mount Wank including Ameisenberg and Rosswank
The cable car Wankbahn offers a comfortable way of getting up to Garmisch-Partenkirchen’s prime mountain for panoramic views. Up here you can enjoy excellent views all round and there are great opportunities to stop for refreshments or a meal.
The path starts with a slight incline from the top terminal of the Wankbahn cable car. You will see the summit of Mount Wank with its crucifix straight away. You will walk around the summit on the North East side of the mountain, following the well-developed footpath to Alois-Huber-Haus and then on to Ameisenberg. Alongside the benches you will also find sun loungers, which invite you to relax in the sun.
Close to the summit crucifix you will find a “cinema of nature”. Simply sit down and soak up the atmosphere of the incomparable panoramic views, feel the clear fresh air and let the sun shine on your face. When the weather is good, you can see past Lake Starnberg and Lake Ammersee all the way to Munich.
If you want to continue your walk, you can extend your tour via the circular path leading to Mount Rosswank. This path will take you in a South Easterly direction and opens up to magnificent views over the Wetterstein mountains all the way to the peaks of Tyrol.
