Alpspitz Ferrata – climbing enjoyment up to the summit of Mount Alpspitz

One of the most beautiful and best secured fixed rope routes. Impressive landscape and easy to reach by cable car.

From the top terminal of the Alpspitz cable car at 2,050 m, you will go past the mountain rescue hut up to the north face of the mighty Alpspitze. From there, you will follow the sign “Ferrata” to the beginning of the trail. From here on the course of the route is easily discernable thanks to red Alpine markings and the iron securing devices. The fixed rope route, which is well-developed with iron ladders and steps, will take you right up to the summit of Mount Alpspitze (2,628m). The views from up here are definitely unique. After a well-deserved break at the summit cross, you will descend via the north face fixed rope route, which takes you in a curve to the east, first to Oberkar and from there down on the left edge of the cirque (Alpine markings: red dots) until you get back to the bottom of the Alpspitz north face and back to Osterfelderkopf (signposted).

Variations: Another way up and/or down is via Griesskarscharte (2,460 m), which you can reach via the Alpine hut Höllentalangerhütte in the Höllental valley or via Matthaisenkar (fixed rope route) or from lake Stuibensee via Griesskar. The Alpspitz summit is also the start of the famous tour to Zugspitze via Jubiläumsgrat. This is a very difficult and long climbing tour, which you should only undertake if you are a very experienced mountaineer and best only accompanied by an experienced mountain guide.
