Ski Touring
From the Olympic Ski Stadium via Schönau to Eckbauer
This is a beautiful, simple skiing tour, which is great fun even for the less experienced.
From the Olympic Ski Stadium you will go a few yards past the outdoor swimming-pool towards the hospital. This is where the path towards Eckbauer starts. Follow Kainzenbadstrasse and turn right into the residential area. You will find it easy to follow the route, as this skiing route follows the summer hiking path and you will be able to see lots of signposts. The first bit takes you uphill, followed by a flatter stretch until the path winds itself steeper up the hill in a few turns. At the upper part, when you have almost reached Höhenrücken, keep right at the fork in the path. You will soon reach the sunny Eckbauer-Plateau, which is only a few minutes away from the top terminal of the Eckbauerbahn cable car. The strenuous climb will now be rewarded with fantastic views, not only of the town and the Loisachtal valley, but also of the Wetterstein mountain range towards the south and even King Ludwig II of Bavaria’s Schachenschloss castle.
For the downhill part of your tour you will join the pistes to the left of the cable car, which will take you underneath the gondolas after a few meters. You will ski down the groomed and easy slope in wide swings all the way down to the Olympic Ski Stadium.
