Hiking route
Via Esterbergalm to Mount Wank
We will follow a less frequented path up to one of the most popular mountains in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the foothills of the Alps.
The way up takes you on a small zigzag path via Ameisenberg, whose ridge you follow on the last stretch up to the summit of Mount Wank. The summit crucifix of Ameisenberg, from which you can enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the foothills of the Alps, is located a bit higher up to the right. After a few hundred meters you will reach the summit of Mount Wank and the Alois-Huber-House, where you can stop for refreshments or a meal.
The decent starts right next to the top terminal of the cable car, where you follow the path down to Eckenhütte. The path takes you past Gamshütte (closed), a popular inn for day trippers, and the waterfalls at Kesselgraben. It will then lead you back to the base terminal of the cable car and starting point of the hike via the pilgrimage church of St. Anton and part of the Philosophers’ Trail (a hiking trail with philosophers’ quotations written on benches by the wayside).
